You will be given your own major river to research. You will present your
river to the class through a brief powerpoint presentation (mainly
illustrations of the river). This presentation should not be long. It is meant
to inform the class of your river and its interesting features. Try putting
mainly pictures in your powerpoint and explaining the rest to the class in your
own words. You will e-mail me your presentation and your research from below.
You should share the following with the class:
Name of the river.
Map of where the river flows - What countries does the river flow through, cities? - Its Drainage basin?
Pictures of your river.
Satellite image of your river - use Google Earth to get a birds eye view of your river.
Where is the mouth and source of the river? (to where does your river flow and where does it come from)
Do you think your river includes all stages of river development? which ones? what evidence do you have? (width, meandering, shape, fast/slow flow, show evidence!) - what topography is associated with each stage - steep slopes, level plains...
What is the drainage pattern of your river? dendritic, trellis, rectangular, parallel, radial. Show evidence.
Include any important facts or issues about your river. ie. flooding, dams, it's delta, transportation use, pollution etc.
You will be evaluated on your brief presentation (2-5 minutes) and research.
